Psuedomonas superbug cases on the increase

  • The number of patients falling victim to the latest hospital superbug Psuedomonas is on the increase according to official figures - 18th November 2007

Health workers are unable to cope with the surge of cases involving the latest superbug - Psuedomonas. There has been an 40% increase in recorded cases since 2002 according to Health Protection Agency figures.

This may lead to more and more medical negligence claims against the NHS for breaches of hygiene rules which may constitute negligence.

Traditional cleaning agents have proved to be unreliable and in many cases inadequate as a preventative measure. The bug is very similar to MRSA and C Difficile but can be more deadly. Official figures are hard to come by because the bug has no reporting criteria other than a voluntary option which is not taken up by the majority of hospitals.

It is likely that there will be more publicity involving this drug as more and more cases come to light. The recording criteria needs to change if public awareness if to be increased.
